Lawless: Pens-Jets Trade Would Be Tough To Complete
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - The Penguins have an opening on the top line after Pascal Dupuis' injury.
And the Winnipeg Jets also have several wings that could be attractive to the Pens -- or other teams.
But Columnist Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press told Bob Pompeani that a trade between the two teams would be tough to complete because both are trying to win now.
"They both want 'today' players," Lawless said. "For Ray (Shero) to get a 'today' player out of Winnipeg, he would have to subtract from his core. He's not going to be willing to do that."
Lawless added that the Jets would probably want a top six forward or top four defenseman in return.
Chris Kunitz is having a great season for the Pens. However, despite the stats, Lawless told Pompeani that Kunitz is not a lock to make the Canadian Olympic roster.
"Chris Kunitz is on my Team Canada," Lawless said. "There is a prejudice against Chris Kunitz because of who he's played with. For some reason, people think that because he's played with Sidney Crosby, that's the reason he's so good. I think Chris Kunitz is a great player who happens to play with another great player."
