Latrobe Woman Facing Murder Trial
LATROBE (KDKA) -- A Latrobe woman is now headed to trial in the death of her boyfriend.
Lorenza Swiger is accused of shooting Mark Androstic inside the couple's Latrobe apartment in early December.
During a hearing today, prosecutors played a 911 tape in court of a hysterical Swiger calling for help after the shooting.
"No comment, please," Swiger told reporters as she was escorted by sheriff's deputies to a van.
She initially told police she was trying to show her boyfriend that she know how to unload his gun when it accidentally went off, striking him in the chest.
She later told police she and her boyfriend got into a physical fight after she saw photos of another woman on his cell phone.
Swiger said she went and got the gun because she wanted him to quit hitting her.
Officers went to the couple's East First Avenue apartment in Latrobe, but it was too late. Androstic died at the scene.
"She's got a lot of love and support from her family," a family member said.
Swiger's daughters traveled from Florida to be in court for the hearing, but did not want to talk on camera.
A district judge declined to set a bond for Swiger but suggested she take up the issue with a common pleas judge.
