Latest Round Of PennDOT Road Projects Begins Tonight
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - PennDOT will begin a multi-million dollar project on some of the city's main arteries Monday night.
The one-year, $8.7 million project will take place on some of the most vital connections to and from the city.
Improvements will be done on the ramps on the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne Bridges.
There will also be work on the Parkway East in the city.
"There will be minimal impacts during the peak periods of traffic. Most of the work will occur overnight or on weekends," PennDOT Spokesperson Jim Struzzi said.
The first of the preservation work is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. and will take place in the Bathtub area of the inbound Parkway East near the Grant Street exit.
"There will be overnight lane closures every night this week, 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. They are going to be saw-cutting in preparation for some concrete patching work that will occur this upcoming weekend," Struzzi said.
After that, crews will shift to other ramps and bridges as weather permits.
In total, roughly 20 ramps will be resurfaced and revamped.
PennDOT is reminding drivers to stay alert, be patient, and stay off your cell phone when traveling through any construction zone.
"Pay attention to the overhead signs, allow yourself a little extra time. We've worked very hard to try and minimize the impact of all these projects on commuters," Struzzi said.
Don't expect this construction to disappear anytime soon as this project is not scheduled to wrap up until the fall.
