Part of the East Busway in Pittsburgh is closed due to a landslide
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Part of the MLK Jr. East Busway in Pittsburgh is closed due to a landslide blocking the roadway.
A water main break prompted the landslide, which brought a mix of mud, dirt, and trees down onto the busway from above on Brereton Street in the city's Strip District neighborhood on Friday. The busway is closed between the Strip District and Oakland.
Pittsburgh Public Safety officials said the landslide happened due to a water main break on Brereton Street. Crews responded to the landslide and are working to get it cleaned up.
Pittsburgh Regional Transit, which said the busway will be closed "at least through early next week," said that the detours for the buses will be as follows:
Inbound buses:
Bus routes that use the busway inbound from the Neville Street ramp through North Oakland, Bloomfield, and the Strip District will get back onto the busway at 26th Street.
Outbound buses:
Outbound bus routes are exiting the busway at 26th Street, detouring through the Strip District, Bloomfield, and North Oakland, and reentering the busway at Neville Street.
PRT said the detour adds approximately 15 to 20 minutes to each trip.
"Pittsburgh Regional Transit crews are working diligently to clear the busway," PRT said in a statement on Friday.
