Road Reopened After Landslide In McKeesport
MCKEESPORT (KDKA) – Crews have now reopened a roadway following a landslide today in McKeesport.
KDKA's Harold Hayes reports that crews have now reopened Route 148 (Fifth Avenue) in both directions.
The closure was put in place Wednesday morning between Route 30 and Westinghouse Avenue as crews worked to clean up the mess created by the slide.
"We got a call for electrical lines down in the middle of the roads. When I pulled up, I noticed the hillside had come down, the trees were up in the high tension lines, they were still arcing. When I pulled up and got out of the vehicle, we had a gas smell. So, I immediately asked for Duquesne Light and the gas company to come out just to make sure we didn't have a major gas line, because there's a major gas line underneath a little bridge up here," White Oak Fire Chief Jim Hoffman said.
Crews brought in heavy equipment to assist in the cleaning up of mud, dirt, debris and fallen tree limbs. The road reopened just after 4:30 p.m.
