Kunitz Gets Hat Trick In Pens' 8-1 Rout Against Lightning

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) -- The Penguins flexed their offensive muscle against the Tampa Bay Lightning, beating them 8-1 in Pittsburgh Wednesday night.

By the time the first period was over, the Pens had racked up five goals. It all began when Evgeni Malkin scored just seven seconds into the game.

Chris Conner got a tip-in at 2:23 with assists from Ben Lovejoy and Matt Cooke. About five minutes later, Tyler Kennedy got a wrist shot off of a feed from Kris Letang.

Just 25 seconds later, Sidney Crosby and Pascal Dupuis helped set up the first of three goals by Chris Kunitz who scored again with 1:04 left in the first during the power play.

In the second period, Mark Letestu had a backhander at 12:54. Kunitz earned a hat trick with 11 seconds left in the second during the power play.

Adam Hall got the only goal for Tampa Bay at 2:25 in the second. Alex Goligoski, who already had three assists, scored at 3:38 to make it 8-1.

Marc-Andre Fleury had 31 saves.

Dwayne Roloson, who shut out Washington in his first game for Tampa Bay after being picked up from the Islanders last weekend, gave up five goals on 23 shots while being pulled twice. Dan Ellis gave up the other three goals.

Tampa Bay was 9-1-1 in its previous 11 after beating Washington 1-0 in overtime Tuesday night.
