Kris Letang, Alex Ovechkin Speak Out On Slash
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Following the Penguins 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals at Consol Energy Center on Tuesday, the story buzzing in Pittsburgh is Alexander Ovechkin's hit to the back of Kris Letang's leg.
The play was not called for slashing, but it injured Letang and had many questioning if the hit was dirty. Kris Letang spoke to the media about it after practice on Wednesday.
"Apparently, my leg was a puck," said Letang about the Ovechkin play. "I guess he thought his stick could go through my legs and hit the puck or something like that, I don't know. It is what it is, they didn't call it, and today it doesn't mean anything anymore."
Letang noted that he's feeling fine now and that he was happy to see his teammates stick up for him after the play.
When 93.7 The Fan asked him if the NHL should take any further action regarding the hit, Letang replied, "There's nothing they can do now, the game's over. If you want to do something more, I don't think they would. They would've done it by now."
After the game, Joe Starkey of The FAN asked Ovechkin about what he thought of the play.
"If it was a hard hit or a dirty hit, yes," said Ovechkin. He also downplayed the hit in his comments, "It was not that dirty. I hit him from behind and he got injured."
