KKK Posts Recruiting Fliers In Westmoreland County
EXPORT (KDKA) -- The Klu Klux Klan is apparently recruiting in Westmoreland County.
Posters have been showing up on poles and inside businesses in Export and Murrysville.
The fliers say the group is fighting to "preserve our race" and "a future for our White children."
"It's not respectable because I have a lot of friends that are black," Eric Weinstein, of Export, said. "That would just disgrace all of them."
When calling the number on the flier, KDKA-TV heard the following recording: "Welcome to the Rebel Brigade – Pennsylvania Round Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. If you are interested in joining, please leave your name and number."
KDKA's Jon Greiner left a message, but no one returned his call.
The KKK previously has been active in southwestern Pennsylvania. They held a rally in Greensburg in 1997 and a rally in downtown Pittsburgh the same year.
The Anti-Defamation League says it's concerned and that racism, prejudice and bigotry have no place in our area and that the people of Export stand up and send the message that the welcome mat is not out for bigots and haters – something they seem to have no trouble doing.
"Everyone gets along real well, everyone knows each other," Andrew Hertzler, of Export, said. "I mean, it's unexpected that this would happen."
"No, we definitely don't want these here – this is not even cool," Ron Oliver said. "This is a hate crime it looks like. We definitely don't' want these."
The fliers were up in some prominent businesses in the area, but they were taken down when they were discovered.
