Kids, Parents Excited For New School Year
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - After three months of pure bliss, it's time to roll up the sleeves and get back to school.
Outside McMurray Elementary School in Peters Township, Diane and John Parker captured lasting images of their daughter as she began her first day of fourth grade at a new school.
She seemed excited, but her parents were a little sad to see her go.
"It's a new chapter in her life. So it's exciting and it's emotional when you make a change like that," John Parker said.
Kids anxiously hopped off the bus for the first day of school for many across our area.
The excitement may wear off after a while, but for 7-year-old Ellie, she can't wait for class.
"I like lunch. I like language arts and I look forward to it," Ellie said.
However, today is also a very exciting day for the men and women who have worked all summer to prepare for this school year.
There was no summer break for Superintendent Patrick O'Toole of the Upper St. Clair School District. He said they're ready to welcome back all the students and put them to work.
"We really focus on our vision and our mission of the school district, which is to customize learning, nurture potential, and deliver excellence for all the students of Upper St. Clair," O'Toole said.
New students and returning students arrived in groups at Mt. Lebanon High School like freshman Maura Wallace, who is excited about starting high school.
But, dropping off her only daughter at high school wasn't so easy for Diane Ziemski.
"Her first day of high school! My little girl isn't so little anymore," Ziemski said. "I remember kindergarten and then poof, here it is. It goes so fast."
