McCarthy unveils House Republicans' midterm agenda in Mon Valley
MONONGAHELA, Pa. (KDKA) - With control of the U.S. House on the line in the upcoming midterm election, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy was in Washington County Friday to talk about the GOP's "Commitment to America," their pitch for why voters should elect Republicans.
"I wanted to roll this out in Washington, not Washington D.C. but Washington County," said McCarthy. "Because 'Commitment to America' is about you, the American public."
The four-point plan focuses on public safety, the economy, accountability and freedom.
"Our government has run amok," McCarthy said. "Who has a plan to change that course? We do. The Democrats have no plan for the problem they created."
But House Democratic leader Steny Hoyer, also in Pittsburgh Friday, said Democrats have already delivered on health care, roads, bridges and inflation reduction, over Republican objections.
"Every Republican voted no," Hoyer said. "The result has been the fastest economic recovery in our history."
The White House accused McCarthy of an agenda out of the Trump playbook.
"This is an extreme, out-of-touch MAGA agenda for the country. It's very different than the agenda that President Biden and Congressional Democrats put forward," said White House Deputy Communications Director Kate Berner.
Berner says the GOP agenda includes rolling back lower drug prices for seniors and outlawing abortion nationwide.
On key critical issues, there are stark differences between Democratic and Republican candidates for Congress. Voters will decide on Nov. 8.
