Kevin Allen: Too Early To Make Decision On Zatkoff
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- The Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 4-3 Friday night with rookie Jeff Zatkoff in net.
There are questions as to whether the Penguins will need to find a veteran backup for Marc-Andre Fleury.
Kevin Allen of USA Today told KDKA's Bob Pompeani that the Pens can wait a little bit before making that decision.
"I think it's too early to make a decision, but probably by Christmas-time they've got to make the decision of whether or not he's going to be their guy if they don't think [Tomas] Vokoun's coming back," Allen said. "It's very important. You need those points."
Pompeani asked Allen what the Penguins biggest need is moving forward.
"I'd like them to see them get a little more secondary scoring, to be honest," Allen said. "They've had periods, obviously, when goals have been hard to come by."
