Kevin Allen: Game 2 Could Be Death Knell For Islanders
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – USA Today hockey writer Kevin Allen joined The Fan Morning Show on Thursday in the wake up a 5-0 Penguins beatdown of the New York Islanders in the opening game of the two team's first round NHL playoff series.
In his view, the Islanders had a rude awakening last night after a strong finish to the regular season.
"The Islanders had certainly been one of the hottest teams down the stretch," Allen said. "They had to work extremely hard to get into the postseason. But it's not much of a reward. It's not going to Disneyland when you've got to play the Pittsburgh Penguins."
He sees the next game as an extremely important test for the Isles.
"I think Game 2 is going to tell the whole story," Allen said. "Your best effort in the series is going to come in Game 2. You've been spanked in Game 1, and now you know what it's all about. And know you come out, and you've got to throw out your best effort."
