KDKA-TV's Kristine Sorensen To Perform In 'Multiplicity'
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – On Saturday, Nov. 17, KDKA-TV anchor and host Kristine Sorensen will do something she hasn't done in over 18 years.
She will perform a solo in a dance recital staged by Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, a company based in Squirrel Hill, that is unique because it encourages dancers of all body types and ages to perform.
Kristine sat down with noon and 4 p.m. news anchor Kimberly Gill to talk about the challenge of preparing.
Kristine told Kimberly she has performed ever since she was a child, all the way through college and graduate school, and even had an opportunity to turn professional when she was in high school, which she decided against.
Despite a lifetime of dancing and continuing to take classes, Kristine has not performed on stage since she married and had her three children.
In fact, her husband, KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin, and their children have never seen her perform, which was one of the reasons she accepted an invitation from Bodiography Founder Maria Caruso to dance in the upcoming "Multiplicity" show.
"You can choose in life how hard you want to work at something and that's why I picked her," Caruso said. "I knew she would take it to the next level."
Kristine said she felt as if she could take on the challenge because Caruso's company celebrates dancers of different abilities and skill levels.
"I'm definitely not as flexible (as I once was)," Kristine said. "I can't stretch as far and yeah, my feet hurt. I have arthritis in my feet probably from wearing pointe shoes for 10 years. But, I thought it was worth the pain to get back in shape and really push myself."
Kristine has had to carve out time in her busy schedule to rehearse, dancing at home in the early mornings before her children are awake and fitting rehearsals at the studio around her anchoring schedule.
While she's nervous about performing again, she's also excited to be pursuing her passion again.
"I'm always up for a challenge and I find once I reach that challenge--I think wow! I'm so glad I did that!"
