KDKA Investigation Gets Results: D.A. Investigates Roofer
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Allegheny County District Attorney's office has now opened an investigation to determine if criminal charges should be be filed against a man KDKA-TV has told you about in the past.
A few months back the Garden City Volunteer Fire Department in Monroeville says they got taken for thousands of dollars by a local roofing operation, All-Weather Roofing.
"Every protrusion on the roof looks like this. They just cuts strips, and I don't know, Elmer's glued them on," said volunteer firefighter Rich Atwood. "You step on this and you can hear the water swishing in there."
Atwood said, "If he's willing to do this to a volunteer fire company, he's willing to do it to an old couple on social security. Or a handicapped couple who have no means of making extra money."
All-Weather roofing is owned by Mario Mitchell -- the same person KDKA-TV has done stories about in the past operating under different company names.
Court records show a dozen unpaid judgements against companies called Able Roofing, Able 1 Roofing and Dun-Right Roofing, which allegedly fixed the roof on Knickerbocker supply for $20,000; where vents they put on their roof - turned out not to be vents at all - but just dummies.
The Allegheny County District Attorney's office has now opened an investigation to determine if criminal charges should be be filed.
"Well, they took the money and run," said one victim, Gary Greisinger.
He says he regrets ever hiring Mitchell's Able Roofing.
The fire company is out it's money and had to pay an additional $19,000 to a responsible roofer to actually do a professional job.
If the D.A. determines that crimes have been committed, arrest warrants will be issued, but right now investigators are interviewing the many victims and businesses who say they are victims.
