Karstens Strong In Final Spring Outing

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pirates starting pitcher Jeff Karstens had a solid outing in his final spring appearance, leading the Pirates to a 3-1 victory against Toronto Sunday.

Karstens pitched four innings, allowing just one run and four hits. He struck out one batter and walked one, lowering his spring ERA to 2.12.

Outfielder Nate McLouth and infielder Matt Hague each hit home runs in the latter innings to earn the win.

McLouth belted a his second homer of the spring with one on and two outs in the eigth inning. Hague's shot came in the ninth.

Outfielder Jose Tabata went 2 for 3 from the plate. Third baseman Pedro Alvarez went 0 for 3 with a strikeout.
