Jury Deliberations Underway In SRU Student's Murder

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Jury deliberations are to resume Friday in the murder trial involving a Slippery Rock University student.

Three people are charged in the murder, but only one of them is on trial.

Prosecutors say the trio shot 20-year-old Jordan Coyner last year when they went to his home in Kennedy Township to steal cash and marijuana.

Jon Lee is on trial for allegedly coming up with the scheme.

Devele Reid and Brandon Lind will have their cases decided by a judge.

Reid is charged with shooting Coyner in the head. It all happened at Coyner's parents' home in Kennedy Township in June 2012.

The prosecution says defendant Jon Lee, who opted for a jury trial, had the idea to commit the robbery and that Lind targeted Coyner because Coyner sold marijuana.

And when Reid was arrested, County Police said marijuana was at the core of the whole thing. Police say Reid planned to take the marijuana, but not to pay for it.

But during the trial, the lawyer for Lind argued his client was not part of a homicide plot. And the attorney for Lee argued there's no evidence Lee orchestrated the robbery and that just being present does not make him an accomplice.

The jury resumes deliberations in the morning. Judge Philip Ignelzi will release his verdict in the other two cases once the jury reaches its verdict.
