Josh Yohe On Pens GM Search: Pierre McGuire Still In The Running
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - As the Penguins continue their search for the team's next general manager after firing Ray Shero, none of the candidates have emerged as front-runners, but there is one name that keeps popping up.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Pens' beat writer Josh Yohe joined Starkey and Mueller to talk about the search and says that NBC Sports analyst Pierre McGuire is still in the running.
"I can't give specifics about how many interviews he has had, because to be honest, the organization and those close to the organization have been remarkably tight-lipped the last couple of weeks, very little is getting out," Yohe told us. "But are they interested in Pierre to some extent? Yes, I think from what I've heard they very well may be."
Yohe also told us what many have suspected since the firing of Ray Shero that the higher-ups in the organization want more say in the personnel department.
"If I were a general manager interviewing for this job, I would want it made very clear how much power I had because I heard enough, in the last few weeks in particular, about the final year or two of the Ray Shero-era, and it has become pretty clear to me that he didn't always have free reign to run the team as he chose," Yohe said. "Did he have to answer to David Morehouse to some extent? Ya, I think he did. The Penguins will probably deny that or have you believe otherwise, but I do think that was the case. Ultimately, I think the Penguins are going to have to find somebody who does work well with Morehouse and ownership."
