Jordy Mercer On Playoff Race: 'We're Still Right In It'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer has been one of the bright spots for the team this year and he says they're still right in the middle of the playoff hunt.
Joining the Starkey and Mueller Show, Mercer talked about the season they've had so far and how the team is viewing the playoff race.
"It's been a crazy weird year," Mercer said. "The fact that we had guys get hurt, we haven't played as well as we'd like to play, but the good part about it is, we're still right in it."
The Pirates are still in the playoff race, but many weren't sure if that would be the case after the moves General Manager Neal Huntington made at the trade deadline.
Mercer talked about the reaction in the clubhouse when the trades happened and how they're viewing them now.
"I don't necessarily think there were bad feelings," Mercer said about losing guys like Mark Melancon and Francisco Liriano. "We get it, we know it's a business, we understand that the front office has got to make choices. It was tough to lose those guys, you know, emotionally, but we figured out that our front office makes some pretty good choices in the long run, so we know it's all in their hands and we know that they're going to put us in a good spot."
