Jordan Brown Sentenced To Treatment Center, Evaluations
NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- A Lawrence County boy was sentenced today in connection with the shooting death of his father's pregnant fiancée in 2009.
Last month, a judge found 14-year-old Jordan Brown delinquent in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Kenzie Houk and her unborn child.
In juvenile court, that's similar to a guilty verdict.
During today's sentencing, the judge said Brown will be transferred to a secure juvenile treatment facility and evaluated every six months, likely until his 21st birthday.
People inside the courtroom said Brown showed little emotion. He faced Houk's family.
"A nightmare for all involved and I let them know how my family suffers every day, how I suffer every day, how this has just changed our lives," Jennifer Kraner, the victim's sister, said.
Brown was just 11-years-old when he was charged in connection with Houk's death. He was initially charged as an adult, but his attorney successfully argued to have the case moved to juvenile court.
"He's never, never acknowledged that he killed her and we believe that he didn't kill her," Brown's attorney Dennis Elisco said.
He added that the fight isn't over yet.
"And we are appealing and our goal is to get a new trial or an outright acquittal by the Superior Court," he said.
Jordan Brown's father left the courthouse without comment.
