Jon Burton: Steelers Training Camp Day 1
Day 1: Players arrive at St. Vincent College
Many of the players arrived either early this morning or last night. Neither Ben Roethlisberger, Hines Ward, James Harrison, nor Rashard Mendenhall made themselves available to the media that was gathered outside the players' dorm. Many of the players I spoke to say the off-field incidents (Ward DUI, Harrison magazine article) will not be a distraction for the team going forward. Veteran players like Larry Foote, Brett Keisel and Ryan Clark said the lack of OTA's and Mini-Camps were not a problem for them because they know the system already and know what it takes to stay in shape during the off-season. Each player was glad to be getting back to work now that the lockout is over.
Once the players arrived at the dorms they participated in a conditioning drill. (We are not allowed to call it a run test anymore!) The first practice is Friday afternoon at 2:55 p.m. and is open to the public.
