Man Indicted In Death Of Bethel Park Woman Allegedly Kidnapped, Taken To The Nevada Desert
LAS VEGAS (KDKA/AP) — A man accused of kidnapping a special needs woman in Pennsylvania last year and then driving her to Nevada before allegedly killing her was indicted in the case Tuesday.
Federal prosecutors said 40-year-old John Matthew Chapman is accused of one count of kidnapping which resulted in the death of the victim — 33-year-old Jaime Rae Feden.
Chapman, a Pennsylvania resident, remains in federal custody in Las Vegas and awaits a May 29 court appearance.
Prosecutors said Chapman faces up to life in prison if he's convicted in the case.
In the indictment, which was filed on Tuesday, the federal grand jury says that John Chapman, 40, kidnapped Jaime Feden, 33, in September of 2019 and drove her from Pennsylvania to Nevada.
The grand jury alleges that Chapman used a cell phone, the internet and a vehicle, all resulting in Feden's death.

According to a federal complaint from February, Chapman told Feden they were going to Las Vegas so they could get a home together.
However, Chapman allegedly told police he intended to kill Feden for her money. The complaint stated that he had a "kill kit" ready before they left for the trip.
Investigators said Chapman confessed saying he took Feden to the desert where he tied her to a signpost and suffocated her, then got rid of her clothes on his way back to Bethel Park.
Once the federal case is wrapped up, Chapman will be transferred to Lincoln County, Nevada. Patrol Sergeant Derek Foremaster traveled to Bethel Park back in December to investigate the case, and met with Feden's family. He spoke to KDKA after learning of the grand jury indictment that was filed.
"Hopefully we can get their loved one who was killed some justice. That's the only consolation. They're not going to get their loved one back but the consolation is to make sure our suspect does not see the freedoms anymore," said Patrol Sergeant Derek Foremaster with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Chapman is still locked up in Nevada. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 29 in Las Vegas.
