Joe Grushecky Concert To Benefit Parkinson's Research
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Joe Grushecky has been pumping iron and strumming his axe for decades and more often than not he does it in the service of a greater cause.
Saturday night he will be playing and organizing the first ever Pittsburgh concert for the Light of Day Foundation to benefit Parkinson's research.
Grushecky himself was instrumental in starting the foundation after his manager, Bob Benjamin, developed Parkinson's disease.
It has grown into an international charity from an initial bar concert on the Jersey shore with his friend Bruce Springsteen whose song "Light of Day" gave the foundation its name.
The foundation has raised more than a million dollars for Parkinson's research and with the help of national artists and local musicians like Bill Deasy, Grushecky hopes the concert Saturday night at The Altar Bar will aid to the tally and become an annual event.
