Jitney Driver Shot, Killed In McKeesport
MCKEESPORT (KDKA)- A jitney driver was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in McKeesport.
According to Allegheny County Police, the shooting happened around 12:10 a.m. in the Crawford Village housing complex.
The victim has been identified as 59-year-old John Haas. He shot once in the head as he was leaving the area with a passenger.
Haas was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
KDKA-TV's Heather Abraham spoke with Haas' wife, who did not want to be identified. She said they had been married for almost 10 years.
"We had a great life. I loved him so much. I would have gave up anything just to be with him. I don't know what I'm going to do now," his wife said.
Now, the family wants justice in their time of mourning.
"I can't imagine what I saw at the hospital. A bullet in my husband's head," his wife said. "I want justice for my husband so I can rest."
The woman who was riding in the jitney was not injured.
County Police detectives believe Haas was not the intended target of the shooting.
His vehicle closely resembles that of one of a gang member who may currently be involved in the ongoing shootings in the area.
Prior to Wednesday morning's fatal shooting, there were three other shootings in McKeesport last night. However, no one was injured in any of the other shootings.
McKeesport Police believe this is part of an ongoing dispute between rival drug organizations.
Police are reviewing video in hopes of identifying the car used in this morning's fatal shooting.
