Jim Nantz: For Once, It's Good To See Focus Shifted Away From The Field
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Lead NFL on CBS play-by-play broadcaster Jim Nantz joined "The Fan Morning Show" to talk about the Ray Rice situation and its latest developments.
Ray Rice was cut by the Baltimore Ravens and suspended indefinitely by the NFL on Monday.
The news came after TMZ Sports released a video of Rice punching his then-fiance (now wife) in the face in a casino elevator.
Nantz said that this is one case in which he's glad to see our collective focus turned away from football.
"The whole Johnny Manziel thing - the attention that that's gotten, to me, has been too extreme," Nantz said. "I mean, just the focus on that story alone, just way too much about one guy. It's just a feeding frenzy. Now, the Rice story, here's another one that's off-the-field, but I'm glad that there's been so much attention to this story. You hope this is going to create change in society, again, transcending the sport. It was sickening looking at that yesterday morning. It was so disturbing. I'm happy as a father of two daughters to see that the Ravens did, on this occasion, did handle this thing in a very swift manner."
The Steelers will head to Baltimore to take on the Ravens Thursday at 8:25 p.m. Nantz will be calling the game and you can watch it locally on KDKA-TV as well as nationally on CBS.
