Jim Colony: Morse Says Pirates Know Winning Code
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Michael Morse has been around..
Morse, who turns 34 later this month, has been with seven different organizations - eight if you count the one day he spent as a Dodger last summer after a 3-team trade from Miami before L.A. sent him to Pittsburgh for Jose Tabata.
While Morse did not make that much of an impact over the last two months of the season, he does know about winning as a World Series champ with the Giants in 2014. So, he adds a winning presence to what is already a winning team.
"Guys like Vogelsong and myself, we just want to win, no matter what," Morse says. "And I think that's the kind of mentality this organization has and it's only making the young guys grow, so it's a very good vibe. Not every organization has that."
Morse is also comfortable with what will probably be a part-time role, platooning with John Jaso at first base.
"At this stage of my career, I'm not trying to win a job," says Morse, who has played parts of 11 major league seasons. "No, I want Jaso to do great because I know if he does great, I'll do great and the team will do great."
I think that mentality comes once you win a World Series, you want to get back so badly you'll do whatever it takes."
