Jerry Sandusky: 'I Am Innocent Of Those Charges'
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has broken his silence and talked with NBC's Bob Costas.
He admits that he should not have showered with any kids, but adds, "I say that I am innocent of those charges."
Costas challenged that, asking if Sandusky considered himself completely innocent in every aspect.
"Well, I could say that I have done some of those things," said Sandusky. "I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them, and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact."
The phone interview was aired on "Rock Center" with Brian Williams.
Costas also asked Sandusky if he's a pedophile. Sandusky said, "No."
Sandusky is charged with 40 counts of sexually abusing eight boys, all of whom he met through the charity that he founded, The Second Mile.
According to the presentment, police listened-in during two conversations that Sandusky had with the mother of one of the alleged victims.
When told he was told he couldn't see that boy anymore, he's quoted as telling the mom, "I understand. I was wrong. I wish I could get forgiveness. I know I won't get it from you. I wish I were dead."
Two Penn State officials are charged with covering up the abuse.
In addition, the school's president was fired, as was legendary coach Joe Paterno.
Mike McQueary, the assistant coach who says he witnessed Sandusky raping a boy, was placed on administrative leave.
