Jeff Verszyla's Updated Winter Weather Forecast
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - After some record warm temperatures this week, cold weather has settled back in again.
So, is this a taste of what's in store for the month of February and beyond?
KDKA-TV Chief Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla offered an update to his winter weather forecast on Thursday.
Now that 60 percent of the seasonal outlook is in the books, so far so good for Verszyla's original winter forecast.
For November, December and January, Verszyla forecasted a total of 24.1 inches of snow. The area has received a total of 24.6 inches.
His forecast for February was for the coldest and snowiest month of the season. Previously, he said an active storm track will bring regular snowfalls and greater potential for bigger storms.
Verszyla forecasted a monthly snowfall of 21.2 inches, which is more than double the average.
Based on the current long-range outlook, Verszyla sees no reason to stray from the overall theme for the month being cold and snowy.
He did tweak the snow total down a notch to 18.5 inches, with weeks one, three and four looking to be average or below average in terms of temperature, while the second week should be average or above in terms of temperatues.
Looking into March, spring will arrive right on schedule.
Verszyla's forecast still calls for a quick turnaround with fast and vast improvement. Snowfall will be below normal with above normal temperatures.
So brace yourselves for what's to come in February, but know that in a couple short weeks, spring will be here.
