Locke To Miss All-Star Game, Melancon Added To NL Roster
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Pittsburgh Pirates starter Jeff Locke will miss his next scheduled start on Sunday against the New York Mets.
Locke is experiencing lower back soreness and will take some time to recover during the All-Star Break.
Locke was selected to the All-Star Game, but will not participate as he heals. He will make the trip to Citi Field in New York.
Replacing Locke in the rotation will be rookie Gerrit Cole on Sunday.
Locke will return to the rotation after the All-Star Break and is not expected to go on the disabled list.
The post-All-Star Break rotation will be: Francisco Liriano, A.J. Burnett, Jeff Locke, Charlie Morton and Gerrit Cole.
However, Locke's spot on the NL All-Star roster will be filled by another Pirate. Relief pitcher Mark Melancon will head to New York.
Melancon has only allowed four runs in 44 1-3 innings pitched this season. He has also struck out 46 while only issuing four walks.
