Jay Caufield: Pens 'Going To Be On A Mission,' Especially the PK
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- ROOT Sports Penguins analyst Jay Caufield joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday to preview the team's first-round playoff series against the New York Islanders, which begins at Consol Energy Center tonight.
Caufield feels that the Pens' penalty killing unit will be especially motivated following its poor performance against the Flyers in last year's playoffs.
"They're going to be on a mission to be the top unit that they can be," Caufield said. "I think Pittsburgh is really out to prove something."
He expects this drive for improvement to extend well beyond the penalty kill, as last year's Pens play alongside newcomers that didn't participate in that Flyers series.
"There's a lot of new blood in there," Caufield said. "Across the board, they're not going to allow themselves to have an early exit. You can take it game by game, however you want to say it, but this first round is in the way."
Caufield's commentary can be heard during every Penguins game on ROOT Sports, and on The Fan Morning Show every week.
