Jailed Man Arrested In Mt. Washington Burglaries
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh police say they have arrested and charged a man who was already in jail with several burglaries last year in the city's Mount Washington neighborhood.
According to police, 33-year-old Jason Hoffman of Pittsburgh is charged with six counts of burglary and six counts of theft by unlawful taking.
Police arrested Hoffman Monday at the Allegheny County Jail where authorities say he was already incarcerated on a separate burglary charge.
He was first taken into custody at the end of last month by the Upper Saint Clair Police Department in connection with a burglary there.
Investigators say that's when they found several items in his vehicle, which were believed to have been stolen. Police say two of those items, a Giant Eagle Advantage Card and a class ring from Duquesne University, belonged to the Mount Washington victims.
While being interviewed by police, investigators say Hoffman "implicated himself in six burglaries in Mount Washington." The incidents happened during the daylight hours on Norton Street, Rutledge Street and Southern Avenue between October to December of 2012.
Police say the suspect got into the homes through side or rear doors and windows and took jewelry, tools, money and electronics.
Hoffman is being held in the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 19.
