It's going to be a "normal" day in the Pittsburgh area before weekend rain moves in
It's going to be a "normal" day in the Pittsburgh area when it comes to the weather forecast.
Any Alert Days Ahead? Nope
Aware: So far this month we are running a whopping 9.1° warmer than average
A couple of times a month I go into data to see where we stand historically. The one stat that jumped off the page for me was just how warm we have been. March is, historically, one of those months where temperatures are all over the place. There's even a certain rodent that's made a career of trying to guess what we should expect for part of the month (it was a good try this year btw). So far this month, temperatures are running a whopping 9.1 degrees above the daily average. This places us solidly in the top 15 years on record. Records go all the way back to 1870 so it's pretty impressive. This March is the warmest since 2016 with the hottest March ever coming in 2012.
While the stat is impressive, the end-of-the-month numbers won't be as impressive due to temperatures falling back to near normal for the rest of the month. Today will be 'normal' when it comes to where temperatures are for the day. I have highs hitting the low 50s with morning lows likely dipping to near 30 degrees. It'll be sunny to start the day with partly cloudy skies expected to begin moving in after 3 this afternoon. Noon temperatures should be in the mid-40s. Winds will be a little gusty, coming in out of the west at 7-15 mph. Just a reminder that it is too dry to burn right now. Please hold off.
Looking at the weekend we will see a fairly active weather pattern with light rain and maybe even a little snow coming through on Saturday. Saturday morning lows should dip to near 30 degrees late in the day. Saturday highs will be in the low 50s. Most of Sunday is looking dry but there will be a chance for rain and a little snow even during the afternoon. Most of the rain arrives well after sundown with a couple of rumbles also possible around midnight. Nothing severe is expected.
Sunday's high temperature should hit the low 50s with morning lows in the 20s. The weather pattern will stay fairly active next week.
