It's going to be a damp day with afternoon sunshine throughout the Pittsburgh area.

Any Alert Days Ahead?  Nope

Aware: We increased daylight by more than an hour and twenty minutes this month. Since March 1, we have seen an increase of just over an hour of daylight through today when comparing today to March 1.

Getting into our weekly weather pattern, we have a blast of cool air that will arrive this evening.  The cooler weather pattern will stick around through Thursday with us warming up to the 70s for both Saturday and Sunday.

For today, a damp morning will give way to sunny afternoon conditions. Morning temperatures are in the mid to low 40s.  Winds will be breezy this morning, but stronger this afternoon ahead of cooler air rolling in. Afternoon temperatures should be in the mid to low 50s with noon temperatures near 50°. I have wind gusts of near 40mph in Somerset.  Wind gusts near 35mph are expected for Pittsburgh.

Low rain chances and even a snow flurry or two will be possible overnight with the arrival of the colder air.  Morning lows on Tuesday should hover near 30 degrees.

Tuesday highs will be near 50 degrees.  Highs on Wednesday will probably just be in the 40s with morning lows dipping down to the 20s. We begin to warm up on Thursday with highs in the low 50s.

I have highs back in the 60s on Friday. Saturday and Sunday highs will be in the 70s.  Rain chances will be highest on Sunday for the week.  Solid rain chances will also be around on Friday.

Have you noticed the extra daylight yet?

March is the month where we see the largest increase in daylight.  Each day we see daylight grow two minutes and 40 seconds. This is just a fancy way of saying that the change between our sunrise and sunset each day is 2 minutes and 40 seconds. Daylight begins to increase once winter begins with daylight decreasing between the start of summer and the beginning of winter. The spring equinox is when the Earth's North Pole begins to tilt towards the sun and is the reason this month sees the largest increase or daylight.

The longer days are one of many reasons we begin to see warmer weather in the spring and summer months.  The main reason is the increase of the sun's angle due to our North Pole leaning towards the Sun.  Interestingly, the Earth is farthest from the sun during our 'warm' spring and summer seasons.
