1 Person Dead, 2 Others Injured After Crash On I-79 In Canonsburg

CANONSBURG (KDKA) -- One person is dead and two others were injured in a crash that shut down part of Interstate 79 in Washington County during Thursday evening's rush hour.
The crash happened just before 4:30 p.m. in North Strabane Township, and shut down the northbound side of the roadway for much of the evening.
PennDOT closed the highway between the Houston and Canonsburg exits while police investigated and crews cleared the scene. The road has since reopened.

According to a state police spokesperson, a white-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck was heading southbound when it lost control, went off the road, crossed through the grassy median and into oncoming traffic.
A gray Honda Pilot, headed northbound, struck the rear of the truck. The SUV lost control and ended up in the grassy median.
The pickup then collided head-on with a silver Nissan Versa, which spun out of control and went up an embankment on the side of the road.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The Washington County Coroner's Office identifies her as 59-year-old Esther Davis of Canonsburg.
The driver of the SUV was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, and the driver of the pickup was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment.
Neither of their conditions have been released.
Officials have also not yet released the name of the victim.
The crash remains under investigation.
