Injured Detective Gives Emotional Testimony During Police Chase Trial
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A man is on trial after allegedly leading police on a chase from Pittsburgh to Monroeville last summer.
In court on Thursday, officers involved in the pursuit took the stand. Sean Wright, age 21 at the time, was charged.
When arrested, Wright said his car was to blame.
The chase started in Garfield and ended in Monroeville in June of 2010. When it ended, two police officers and a sheriff's deputy were injured.
Pittsburgh Homicide Detective Brian Johnson fought back tears as he told the jury he can no longer take his kids to athletic activities.
He says he lives in constant pain and has no idea what the future holds as a result of his injuries in the crash.
Johnson testified: "He comes around the corner like a bat out of hell. Suddenly, I see the lieutenant go up in the air and then 'Boom! Boom! Boom!' It goes dark."
Then Pittsburgh Homicide Detective Cindy Smith testified she ran over.
"I told him he was still breathing, keep doing that," she said. "He was laying in oil. I took off my coat and put it under him."
Johnson says sometimes he walks with a cane and other times he has to use a walker.
Wright is charged with six counts of attempted homicide as well as other charges.
Testimony in this case will resume on Friday.
