Infant Dies After Vandergrift Shaking Incident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A baby who was badly injured after an alleged shaking incident has died.

The 8-week-old girl was taken to Children's Hospital for a severe brain injury, and was on life support when she passed away on Monday.

According to investigators, the child's father, Matthew Milisits, told police the infant hit her head on a bathroom door, but didn't cry.

Later, he said she started crying and soiled a diaper. That's when authorities said he admitted to allegedly shaking her violently to stop her from crying.

He was taken into custody and is facing a list of charges including, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.

Milisits was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday; but now that the baby has died, the hearing was delayed until December.

Dr. Cyril Wecht will perform the autopsy on the child. Milisits could face a homicide charge based on the results of the autopsy.

He is being held in the Westmoreland County Prison.
