Inch Or 2 Of Snow Expected Locally, Much More North Of I-80
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It's going to be a cold, wintry weekend in Pittsburgh with falling temperatures and some snow showers.
KDKA's Jon Burnett says a cold front will be making its way through this afternoon. Today's high will be 37.
We are expected to see some snow locally, but not nearly as much as areas north of Interstate 80.
"[Winds will] be picking up later today as a secondary cold front is going to come plowing through the region this afternoon and temperatures really are going to top out right around the noon hour at 35 to 38 degrees, and then start falling as this front comes through, steadily falling, and so will a little snow," said Burnett. "I say a little for most of us here in the southwest corner and even over into the ridges of the Laurel Highlands, no more than an inch or two, but when you get just east of the Laurel Highlands out into central parts of Pennsylvania, especially up into Crawford and Erie counties in northwestern Pennsylvania, this is a lake effect event that's setting up today."
The National Weather Service has already issued some advisories and warnings for parts of the area.
Somerset County is under a Winter Weather Advisory starting at 7 p.m. through 7 p.m. Sunday.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued from Clarion County. It also starts at 7 p.m. and runs through 1 a.m. Monday.
Also, a Lake Effect Snow Warning begins at 7 p.m. for Mercer and Venango counties through 1 a.m. Monday, and for Crawford County from noon to midnight Sunday night.
"There could be as much as a foot to a foot and a half of snow up in Erie and Crawford counties, and any area north of Venango County, Forest and Elk counties, too," said Burnett. "Any area north of I-80 will be under the gun tonight and [Sunday] as this lake effect event sets up and continues right into the day [Sunday]."
As for how much snow we can expect from Saturday night into Sunday, locally one to two inches, and two to four inches in the Laurel Highlands.
Sunday will be cold with a high of only 26.
