Ice Labyrinth Creating Lots Of Buzz At First Night Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A new attraction drawing Pittsburghers to downtown's New Year's Eve celebration is a massive, icy labyrinth with walls five-feet high.
The ice maze was specially designed for the 20th anniversary of Highmark First Night Pittsburgh.
From above is perhaps the best perspective for the ice maze, but it's not until you walk through it that you really get a feel for the work that went into it.
"Oh my goodness, it's crazy," said Allegra Johnson, of Munhall. "I think it's awesome, it's really awesome."
"The nice thing is even if you don't know where you're going, and you're felling a little trapped, you can always see over the walls 'cause they're five-feet tall or you can see through them," said Megan Hill, of Wilkinsburg.
"I thought it was beautiful. I think whoever did this is an amazing artist," added Elizabeth White, of Bellevue.
That artist is Rich Bubin from Churchill. He and an engineer put together 320 blocks, each one weighing 325 pounds.
"It's a memory everyone will remember forever 'cause you're not going to see this anywhere else," said Bubin. "It's like one of a kind."
If you make it all the way to the end - the perfect photo op - sitting on an ice throne.
"It's just awesome. I didn't know they could do this with ice," said Luke McGonigal, of Bellevue. "The two thrones are amazing."
