Hurricanes Tear Through Pitt

Miami scored touchdowns on their first possession of each half while Pitt's offense never got moving in a 31-3 Hurricanes win.

The Panthers offense sputtered throughout the game with the nation's leading rusher last season, Dion Lewis, gaining just 41 yards on the ground.  Starting quarterback Tino Sunseri was 8 for 15 and collected 61 yards.  Pat Bostick relieved Sunseri in the fourth quarter following a hit to the head that left him with blurred vision.  Bostick didn't fare any better, finishing 5 of 9 for 43 yards while also tossing up two interceptions.  Sophomore running back Ray Graham led the team in rushing, with 100 yards, and in receiving, with 43 yards.

A 15 yard roughing-the-passer penalty by the 'Canes at the end of the third quarter allowed Pitt to move the ball inside the Miami 30 for the first time.  That drive yielded Pitt's only score, putting three points on the board from the toe of kicker Dan Hutchins.

Jabaal Sheard registered two sacks for Pitt, while defensive backs Jarred Holley and Dom DeCicco both had interceptions, but it wasn't enough to halt the Hurricane's onslaught.  Miami quarterback Jacory Harris completed 21 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns.  Running backs Damien Berry and Lamar Miller both tacked on a TD.

The Panthers lost linebacker Dan Mason in the third quarter due to a dislocated right knee.
