Hunter finds human remains in Lawrence County
PULASKI TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- State police are investigating after a hunter found a human skull in Lawrence County.
State troopers, crime scene investigators and the coroner were at the scene Wednesday combing the woods for additional remains and evidence.
So far, they say they don't have a full skeleton of the person but enough to be able to make an identification as soon as possible.
Pulaski Township police got a call just after 3 p.m. Tuesday from a man who was hunting in a wooded area off Route 422 near Ambrosia Road when he stumbled upon a human skull. Officers immediately converged on the area, where they found other bones nearby.
The investigation was then turned over to state police, who stood guard over the area overnight to keep trespassers away while the investigation continued.
State police were back at the scene early Wednesday morning with the Lawrence County coroner and cadaver dogs combing through the densely wooded area for more remains.
State police say they found some 20 bones in addition to the skull and some clothing. While they don't know the gender or age of the person, they say they believe the skeleton has been in the woods for at least a few years.
State police said they'll enlist the help of an odontologist to try to identify the person based on the teeth found with the remains.
State police ask anyone who may have a missing loved one to reach out to them.
