Hundreds Attend Funeral For Man Killed By Bank Robber

WASHINGTON, Pa. (KDKA) – The funeral for a man who was shot and killed while trying to stop a bank robber in Washington County was held today.

Hundreds of people attended the funeral service for 46-year-old Vincent Kelley.

You could feel the pounding in your chest long before you saw them, the vroom of motorcycle engines. It marked the rolling arrival of the Brothers of the Hammer, escorting the casket of their fallen friend.

Vinny Kelley would have smiled.

Inside, family greeted those gathered to say their goodbyes.

Vincent "Mystro" Kelley made a lot of friends in his 45 years. Hundreds of them filled every room, every hallway, every inch of the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home. St. Paul A.M.E. men's church choir raised a joyful sound.

Vinny's deeply-grieving mother, his daughter Sierra, and 9-month-old grandson Romeo were in attendance. It is a large and close family.

"By Vinny's actions, he was definitely not selfish," said Rev. Kim Asbury during the service.

Hands were placed over hearts, and John "Tommy" Kelley remembered his brother as a man who knew how to pay it forward.

"He would ask that you would do the same for someone else, regardless of whether you know them or not," said John of his brother.

Kelley was buried with the top hat he sported riding his bike and will be remembered for his smile and big heart.

The robbery happened on Sunday at the Citizen's Bank inside the Giant Eagle in South Strabane.

Kelley gave chase as the robber ran out into the parking lot. No arrests have been made in the case at this time.

Kelley was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in McMurray.
