PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The city skyline is about to become a bit more colorful with the reinvention and modernization of a Pittsburgh tradition.
KDKA-TV is joining with the owners of the iconic Downtown Pittsburgh building, the Gulf Tower, and Rugby Realty Co., Inc. to bring back the Weather Beacon.
In order to properly read the KDKA Weather Beacon at the Gulf Tower, you need to know what all the colors mean:
Floor By Floor Breakdown
- 44th floor - temperature
- 43rd floor - temperature
- 42nd floor - temperature
- 41st floor - precipitation
- 40th floor - humidity
- 39th floor - wind speed
Temperature
- Dark blue - below 0
- Med blue - 0-32
- Light blue - 33-49
- Amber - 50-65
- Orange - 66-79
- Red - 80 and above
Precipitation
- Red purple - above .25"
- Blue purple - .25" and below
Humidity
- Dark green - 50 percent and above
- Light green - below 50 percent
Wind Speed
- Magenta - over 10 mph
- Pink - 10 mph and under
