Harrison Twp. House Explodes, Woman Rushed To Hospital
HARRISON TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- A house exploded early Wednesday morning in Harrison Township, which left one woman injured.
Firefighters were called to the home on Pleasant Road around 1:30 a.m.
Hilltop Hose Company Fire Chief Tom Wesoloski says a woman inside the home jumped out of a window. She was badly burned on 25 percent of her body.
Propane tanks were used to heat the mobile home and the fire chief says the tanks were on fire and exploded.
"I found a mobile home well-involved," Chief Wesoloski said. "What must have happened, one of the supply lines for the propane tank ruptured and caused the fire."
Also, there were two shotguns inside the home. They began firing off ammunition during the fire.
"We did find a couple of rifles that were inside. They were turned over to the police," Chief Wesoloski said.
The woman who was burned was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital with second and third-degree burns. She was last listed in critical condition.
The house is a total loss and the fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate the cause.
There was no natural gas service for the mobile home. The propane tanks are what supplied its heat.
If you'd like to make a donation to help the victim, a fund has been set up in her name. Donations can be dropped off to the Tina Slomkoski Fund at any First Niagara Bank.
