Hopewell Welcomes Hometown Olympic Silver Medalist
HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Front yard volleyball with mom is a pleasant diversion for the silver medal winner home from London.
Christa Harmotto of Hopewell Township was one of many stars on a team that was all about teamwork.
"What I have learned as soon as you go internal, then it's hard to perform because it's not about you, it's about the team and what can USA bring to the table in the Olympics," she said.
Banners, balloons and a celebration on the high school football field are in store for the hometown Olympian. Family and friends have been in Christa's corner on both sides of the Atlantic.
"The community has been fantastic and a huge push of support for me."
The silver medal winner admits there was a sting in coming so close to gold.
"It was great to play against Brazil and they played a heck of a match," she said. "I think I gave myself about five minutes to be disappointed and then I was hungry again. And, God willing, I'll be back in Rio in 2016."
