The Hopewell Area School District is providing an update regarding the network disruption experienced by the district last week.
Hopewell has been working with outside specialists to investigate and securely restore our systems to ensure that school continues with minimal interruptions. There has been substantial progress made since last week on the network, and specialists will continue to support and lead district efforts.
While we continue to restore network functionality and our investigation remains ongoing, we can now confirm this incident stemmed from a sophisticated ransomware attack by unknown criminal actors. As a result, we have informed state and federal law enforcement, and we are continuing to make re-securing our network a top priority. Additionally, we are actively investigating whether any data stored on our network was accessed without authorization.
We will provide additional updates as we are able to do so. Thank you again for your patience and flexibility as we continue to respond to this challenging situation, and we apologize for any concern this incident may cause.
Student devices were not affected in the incident, and those devices may continue to be used both on and off campus as has been the practice.
