Honor Our Veterans
PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) -- This weekend America honors those who have fought for our freedom.
KDKA's Rob Pratte spoke with two gentlemen about their stories and experiences with the U.S. military.
Tony Accamando, Jr. is a retired communications executive, Vietnam veteran and activist for people affected by the Vietnam War.
Accamando was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army ranking as First Lieutenant.
In 1997, he returned to Vietnam where he decided to organize a Pittsburgh-based volunteer group that evolved into the Friends of Danang. He was the founder of the group which sends aid to Danang, Vietnam.
The second guest was Bill Gentile, an independent journalist and documentary filmmaker teaching at American University in Washington, D.C.
Gentile has been a journalist for more than three decades, visiting five continents. He is the founder and director of American University's Backpack Journalism Project.
