Homewood Man Charged In Elderly Jitney Driver Shooting
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A Homewood man is now facing serious charges after police say he shot and seriously wounded a 90-year-old jitney driver Wednesday.
The shooting happened on Bennett Street near North Murtland Street.
Jason Haddock, 24, of Homewood, is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
Police say a 19-year-old who was with Haddock at the time of the shooting was arrested on an unrelated, outstanding robbery warrant.
He has not been charged in the shooting, but the investigation is ongoing, police say.
The driver who was shot was not the intended target of the gunman; rather, he was aiming for a front-seat passenger, who jumped out of the jitney driver's car and ran off after the gunfire erupted.
The condition of the elderly driver wounded has been upgraded from critical to serious; however, detectives said he was shot multiple times, including once in the neck and lost a lot of blood.
Earlier this year, there were two fatal, separate shootings of jitney drivers in the Pittsburgh area.
John Haas, 59, was killed in Crawford Village in McKeesport in May. Investigators said that was a case of mistaken identity.
And a month earlier, 28-year-old jitney driver Monica Proviano was gunned down in Wilkinsburg in a robbery.
