Homestead, Pittsburgh Celebrating Batch's Big Win Over Ravens

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Perhaps nowhere are people more proud of Charlie Batch's performance with the Steelers on Sunday than in his hometown of Homestead.

It's there where someone has a placed a sign on the front of their home in Batch's honor.

It's also there where he has a playground named after him, where young people involved in his Summer basketball program play.

Mary Paul, who works in Homestead, had this say about Sunday's game: "To see him at age 37 to lead that team to go out there and beat Baltimore was just phenomenal!"

Meanwhile, Batch got quite a reception when he showed up at Gov. Tom Corbett's speech to the Pittsburgh Technology Council at Station Square. The crowd began clapping for Batch several times.

"He sat down to my right, and I said, 'Now, I understand why they're clapping!'" said Gov. Corbett. "He got a great ovation numerous times."

KDKA's David Highfield: "He didn't get more applause than you?"

Gov. Corbett: "He got absolutely more applause than I did! Are you kidding me? He won a great game yesterday!"

Batch will turn 38 this Wednesday.
