Homestead Heroin Ring Targeted During Drug Sweep

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) – Dozens of accused heroin dealers were part of a roundup in Homestead Thursday morning.

An enormous law enforcement presence descended on Homestead Thursday morning looking for illegal drugs.

"My mother-in-law called, she said 'Michael the SWAT team is out there, don't go out of the house,'" Mike Bascovsky said.

Bascovsky was one of many residents who watched FBI, ATF, Allegheny County Sheriff's Department and SWAT team members from one house to another.

At least four homes saw agents knocking at the front door. Agents later taped off all the first floor windows with heavy thick black paper.

One of the officers making arrests was nearly run over by a driver with a fugitive in his car. The fugitive was arrested, but it's not clear what happened to the driver. However, he will face charges.

Police also said the big drug dealers are using juveniles now to run the drugs, because they figure they won't be charged as much.

Multiple sources confirmed this was a major Mon Valley drug sweep operation, which targeted a significant heroin ring.

In addition to loads of evidence, multiple alleged suspects were taken into custody.
