Hockey Analyst Pierre McGuire Questions Effort Of Evgeni Malkin
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - NBC Hockey Analyst Pierre McGuire is in Pittsburgh covering Wednesday night's Penguins-Flyers matchup and stopped by with Joe Starkey of Starkey, Miller and Mueller to discuss why he thinks Evgeni Malkin is off to such a slow start this year.
"Well I'm really concerned about Evgeni," McGuire said. "I didn't like his game in New York in the 5-1 loss. I did that game with Doc Emrick and Eddie Olczyk, and Evgeni Malkin didn't compete hard enough. You can't massage it, you can't masquerade. I mean the bottom line is if you want to play in this league you got to compete every single day and every single night. And he's a star player, he needs to compete harder, I think he knows that."
McGuire also talked about the season the Flyers are having and how badly they have struggled to get things going this year.
"Steve Mason, a lot of people thought he'd be a weak link in goal, he's a lot better," said McGuire. "So they're starting to wake up, but I think they've kind of fallen behind so much it's going to be tough for them to get back in the race."
Things wrapped up with McGuire looking at the play of Kris Letang this year and the slow start he's off to since coming back from injury.
