Hillside Gives Way, Closes Road In Bridgeville
BRIDGEVILLE (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh region is experiencing some persistent rain associated with the so-called Superstorm Sandy, and the soggy ground is likely what caused a hillside to give way in Bridgeville Monday morning.
As a result of the slide around 10 a.m., a tall tree came crashing down onto Ridge Road and narrowly missed a house. However, it struck a Jeep in the driveway and caused some minor damage.
The tree also brought down four utility poles and power crews were called to the scene to restore service.
It took crews about two hours to get the tree that fell off of the road.
They also removed another tree from the hillside before that one has a chance to fall.
"I was inside doing some paperwork and I heard a loud noise. About 10 minutes later, I went outside to see what it was and I saw a tree in my driveway and I saw four utility poles down all the way up the street," T.J. Britton said
Ridge Road between McLaughlin Run and Vesper was shut down for hours while utility and tree service crews worked.
No injuries were reported.
